Artist Statement

I believe that the best works of art leave the viewer with questions.  Questions about the subject, the artist, the techniques and tools used in creating the piece(s), and the stories behind them.  Questions they will carry with them after they have broken visual contact with the work and, ideally, seek out answers to.

The figures in my work are joined in medias res, players in fleeting vignettes of stories without beginning or end.  The subject matter is not meant to be clever or filled with deep meaning, and I am not attempting to break new grounds in regards to the use of the medium.  Rather, I believe that every person has a different and unique way that they visually interpret the world of their surroundings and I measure my success as an artist by my ability to accurately express and translate - non-verbally - my own particular process of observation and personal aesthetic preferences.

I hope that my work is haunting, expressive, and emotional.  I hope that anyone who encounters it will at least be able to find something they like about it without having to try, and at best find a new way of looking at things.  And I hope they have lots of questions.
